Today the magnificent piazza is home to the Municipal Government and to numerous Renaissance fountains and statues made by the masters of that era.<strong><br \/>\nNeptune&#8217;s Fountain <\/strong>by Bartolomeo Ammannati of the 16<sup>e<\/sup> century, unveiled to celebrate the wedding of Francesco I de\u2019 Medici and the Grand Duchess Giovanna d\u2019Austria.<br \/>\n<strong>Statue of<\/strong> <strong>Cosimo I <\/strong>by Giambologna in the center of the piazza.<br \/>\n<strong>Statue <\/strong>(replica)<strong> of David<\/strong> by Michelangelo (the original is in the Galleria dell&#8217;Accademia), at the western entrance to the Palazzo Vecchio.<br \/>\n<strong>Marzocco <\/strong>replica of the Florentine lion by Donatello (the original is in the Museo del Bargello).<br \/>\n<strong>Replica<\/strong> <strong>of Giuditta e Oloferne <\/strong>(Judith and Holofernes) by Donatello (the original is in Palazzo Vecchio).<\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"xs_social_share_widget xs_share_url after_content \t\tmain_content  wslu-style-1 wslu-share-box-shaped wslu-fill-colored wslu-none wslu-share-horizontal wslu-theme-font-no wslu-main_content\">\n\n\t\t\n        <ul>\n\t\t\t        <\/ul>\n    <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The square is Florence&#8217;s center of civil life and political power, where people gathered since the 13th century to participate in the city&#8217;s major civil life decisions.
