{"id":21217,"date":"2025-09-15T15:34:22","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T15:34:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetjoy.com\/?post_type=attraction&#038;p=21217"},"modified":"2026-05-14T06:42:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T06:42:18","slug":"calheta-town-and-beach","status":"publish","type":"attraction","link":"https:\/\/thetjoy.com\/fr\/attraction\/calheta-town-and-beach\/","title":{"rendered":"Calheta town and Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A relatively large fishing town close to the southwestern tip off the island, 34 km west of Funchal.<br \/>\nThe Calheta Beach, centered in the town\u2019s coastline, is a sheltered beach the only one in the island with golden sand brought artificially every year.<br \/>\nThe beach which has good surfing conditions, has all the required beach facilities including a bar, restaurant and children\u2019s playground on the beach promenade.<br \/>\nAlso in town, <strong>Madeiras Modern Art Museum<\/strong>, MUDAS, with a viewing terraces offering magnificent landscapes, and a highly decorated 15th century church, Igreja Matriz Espirito Santo, with magnificent wood ceiling and blue and white tiles panells.<br \/>\nSix km west of Calheta, <strong>Paul do Mar<\/strong>, is a small fishing village with a small pebbled beach offering good surfing conditions.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Driving the ER211\/105 scenic road 10 km north up to the mountains, you will arrive to Paul da Serra plateau, 1,500 meters high,<br \/>\noffering great landscapes of the surrounding mountain tips, deep valleys and waterfalls, Laurissilva forests, and beautiful Levadas and hiking trails such as the PR6\/6.1 trail. On ER105 you will find on the <a class=\"icon-link\" href=\"https:\/\/thetjoy.com\/fr\/attraction\/paul-da-serra-plateau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Paul da Serra Plateau<\/strong><\/a> the starting point of two Levadas to the <strong>Risco<\/strong> <strong>waterfall <\/strong>et le <strong>Lagoa das 25 Fontes<\/strong> <strong>Waterfall<\/strong>, and many
