The present castle dates mostly from the 19<sup>e<\/sup> century and it is one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. The castle is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len, east of the village of Leeds, and 67 km southeast of London.<\/p>\n<p>In the castle, visit the state rooms with their current style, and other rooms presenting Medieval and Tudor periods. Visit the Gatehouse Exhibition of the 900 years history of the castle, and the Dog collar museum home to a unique collection of historic and fascinating dog collars.<\/p>\n<p>Outdoors, enjoy the castle Maze and the underground Grotto with macabre forms and mythical beasts, and the gardens and parkland, with their carpet of season flowers, terraces, and great landscapes. The woodland, parkland and large lakes are fed by the River Len which surrounds the castle and are home to a wealth of wildlife and birds of various species.<\/p>\n<p>The castle offers great activities for the family including Adventure Golf, Knights&#8217; Stronghold adventure Playground, Falconry Birds of Prey flying demonstrations, and a Bird of Prey Center. Enjoy Elsie the Castle Train ride, Black Swan Ferry, and Go Ape Tree Top Adventure.
