</script>A 840 meters high plateau in the Lasithi region in eastern Crete, 11 km by 6 km area, 70 km east of Heraklion, and 40 km west of Agios Nikolaos. The plateau is famous for its white sails windmills used to pump water for irrigation since the 15th century Venetian period. The fertile soil of the plateau has attracted villagers since the 6000 BC Neolithic period, followed by the Minoans and Dorians to these days.
