</script>A spectacular 13th century monastery, clinging to the high rocky slopes of lake Maggiore's eastern shore, 6 km south of Laveno opposite to Stresa. The monastery porticoes and chapels are packed with frescoes, and the scenery from the tiny courtyards is amazing. You can reach the monastery from the Santa Caterina ferry dock, or from the car park going down and up 268 steps.
