• York Château

A fortified complex of buildings originally built by William the Conqueror in the 11e century and renovated periodically since then, located on the south side of the River Foss. Part of the royal complex were prisons, and law courts, among others. The castle buildings still standing are the famous ruins of Clifford’s tower, and those home to the Musée du château de York and the York Crown Court.
