The shallow lake is a Geothermal Area with numerous small islands, some being pseudo craters, famous for its overwhelming volcanic landscapes and unique geological formations including large craters, lava fields, and hot springs.<\/p>\n

The region is a haven for birdwatchers, with numerous water birds and duck species, making the wetlands their nesting grounds.
\nExplore the interesting and impressive lake surroundings including Skutustadagigar<\/strong><\/a> pseudo-craters, Dimmuborgir<\/strong><\/a> natural stone labyrinth, Hverfjall<\/strong><\/a> tephra crater, Namafjall<\/strong><\/a> geothermal field, and the Krafla<\/strong><\/a> caldera and the huge Viti Crater.<\/p>\n

Once in the area consider also taking a 1 day guided tour, 150 km south, to the Askja Volcano<\/strong><\/a> and the other Viti Craters. The lake region offers variety of traveling services including accommodation facilities, great thermal baths, and more.<\/p>\n
