In 1170, Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in the northwest Martyrdom, making it an important pilgrimage center.<\/p>\n<p>The story is beautifully told in Geoffrey Chaucer\u2019s Canterbury Tales, with the spot where Becket was murdered by Henry the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> knight is marked by a flickering candle and a beautiful altar. Once through the superbly decorated 16<sup>th<\/sup> century Christ Church Gate, enjoy the great view of the cathedral crowned with soaring towers.<\/p>\n<p>In the Cathedral enjoy the beautiful and detailed decorations, the magnificent Medieval Stained-Glass windows, and more. Look for the 12<sup>th<\/sup> century Trinity Chapel above St Thomas Becket crypt and tomb, and the tombs of Edward the &#8220;Black Prince&#8221; and King Henry IV and his wife.
