A Greek island offering beautiful beaches and vibrant resorts which makes the island highly popular summer vacation destination. The island is in the Ionian Sea, 40 by 20 km in size with 123 km of coastline, 20 km west of the Greek Peloponnese region. The island was under Venetian rule in the 15th through to the 18th centuries, followed by French and British rule, but with no real architectural evidence due to the devastating 1515 and 1953 earthquakes.
Zakynthos is somewhat mountainous with fertile valleys, green plains, and a long coastline with Lagoons, bays, secluded coves, and beautiful beaches. The beaches in the island are rocky and pebbled with high cliffs in the north and west, and long sandy beaches in the southeast. With Turquoise clear water some beaches offer amazing snorkeling and scuba diving conditions and fascinating underwater world within sea caves.

There are more than 25 beaches in the island among them Laganas beach, Tsilivi, Kalamaki, Gerakas, Vasilikos and Spiantza beaches, offering clear shallow water perfect for families, all the required beach facilities, water sports and scuba diving centers, and more. The Zakynthos southern beaches, especially those around Laganas Bay which is declared a National Marine Park, are the summer breeding grounds of the endangered Caretta-Caretta Sea Turtles, which you can watch hiding their eggs in the sand.

The main trademarks of the island are the overwhelming scenic Navagio, Shipwreck beach, with its turquoise waters, white sand and dramatic towering cliffs, and the stunning Blue Caves, both accessible only by boat.

Visit Zakynthos Town the capital of Zakynthos, stroll its streets and squares and enjoy the small shops and boutiques, the cafes and restaurants, and at night its vibrant nightlife. Visit the Byzantine Museum, the ruins of the Venetian castle, and the town churches.
