Segovia is one of the oldest cities in Spain, with remarkable and beautiful heritage of the Romans, Moors, and Catholic Monarchs. The town is 90 km north of Madrid, built on a rocky hilltop with the Sierra de Guadarrama in the background.
Today, while strolling the narrow cobblestone streets of the well-preserved Medieval walled town center, you will be impressed and enjoy the numerous architectural and cultural monuments.

Explore the 1st century Roman aqueduct with its 2 tiers and 167 arches, one of the best preserved Roman projects in Spain, the beautiful 16th century Gothic Cathedral, and the fairytale like Alcazar fortress. While strolling the small streets between small squares and hidden 12th century Romanesque churches, enjoy and relax in small local shops and boutiques, cafes and local restaurants.

Walk along the Muralla de Segovia, the 11th century highly preserved city walls and fortifications, and visit the vibrant main town square of Plaza Mayor and its surrounding maze of winding medieval streets. Relax in one of many cafes and small Tapas restaurants in the neighborhood and absorb the Medieval vibes in the La Judería (Jewish Quarter).

Walk along Calle Juan Bravo, one of Segovia’s main streets where you will enjoy the architecture and the city vibes while shopping in the small local shops. In the old town admire the unique facade of the 15th century Casa de los Picos and visit one (or more) of the 12th and 13th centuries Romanesque churches in town.

Admire the renowned Iglesia de San Esteban, the Iglesia de San Martín with its Mudejar architectural touch, and Iglesia de San Justo, with its fine artworks and Romanesque frescoes.

Visit the Convent of Corpus Christi in the Jewish quarter, formerly the 13th century Segovia old main Synagogue. Outside the city walls, enjoy the Iglesia de la Vera Cruz home to the true cross relics, and the 12th century Romanesque Iglesia de San Millán with its Islamic influence.

Enjoy local art in the Segovia Museum, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Esteban Vicente, and the Zuloaga Museum.

Appreciate the magnificent views from the Segovia Miradors (viewpoints), Mirador del Alcazar, Mirador de la Canaleja, and Mirador de la Pradera da San Macros all offering great views of the city, the Alcazar fortress, and the Cathedral.

Traveling outside of the city you will be impressed with the 18th century magnificent Baroque palace, Palacio Real la Granja, the summer palace of the Spanish Monarchs.

Visit Segovia as part of your travel out of Madrid for at least half a day, and on the way back to Madrid consider visiting Monasterio El Escorial, El Valle de los Caidos, and Avila, a picturesque small town 110 km northwest of Madrid.
