A Greek island in the Ionian Sea with its capital bearing the same name. The glorious past and especially the numerous beautiful beach resorts, some of the best in Europe, make Corfu a highly popular tourist’ destination.

Ancient Korkyra was one of the three great naval powers of the 5th century BC Greece along with Athens and Corinth, with its ruins and temples found in Palaiopolis adjacent to Corfu Old Town.
The Venetian ruled the island during the 14th – 18th centuries, followed by the French and British occupation where each period has left impressive architecture, palaces, castles, monasteries, and more, to be explored and enjoyed in the old town of Corfu and throughout the island.

The 64 km long, 32 km wide island, lies off the Albanian coast at its northeastern edge, and off the coast of Greece at its southeastern area. Two high mountain ranges divide the island into three regions, with traditional villages, beautiful, whitewashed houses, grand manor houses, green rural land and olive groves, resembling Italy’s Tuscany.

The island 210 km coastline is where some of the best beaches and resorts in Europe can be found, some crowded and some secluded and tranquil, offering cosmopolitan vibes, great facilities, various accommodation levels, and vibrant nightlife. The leading resort areas are the resorts of Acharavi in the north, Paleokastritsa and Sidari in the west, Dasia and Ipsos in the northeast, and Moraitika, and Kavos, the youngsters’ resorts in the southeast.

When planning and enjoying a summer vacation in one of the beautiful beach resorts, consider a one day trip to visit the beautiful old town of Corfu, its old and new fortresses, the Palace of Saints Michael and George home to the Museum of Asian art of Corfu, the enormous square of Spianada and its surroundings, and more.

Visit the attractions near the town of Corfu and those in the island, the traditional and picturesque mountain villages such as the village of Peritheia, Sinies, and Lakones, and the Achilleion Palace and its beautiful gardens. Explore the old Angelokastro fortress, the Vlachеrna Monastery with its great landscapes of the coastline and the island, and many of the other island attractions.

Consider a day boat cruise to Paxos island and its huge sea caves south of Corfu, or the Diapontia island northwest of Corfu, with their beautiful sandy beaches and peaceful vibes.

A trip in the island can be made while driving, by using the local Blue/Green buses, or via organized tours by local operators.
The best period to visit the island would be in the Spring throughout the Fall, with Mediterranean climate of very warm summers and pleasant Spring and Fall.
