• Trip 4 – To Passo Fedaia and Passo Pordoi

A highly recommended one day circular tour is from Canazei to the Marmolada Mountain peak and Glacier, the Fadaia and Aleghe Lakes and the Fadaia and Pordoi Passes.

This 70 km route can be done in one day for sightseeing only, or in a longer period if hiking is considered.  Another option is to travel back and forth from Canazei to the Fadaia Pass and separately to the Pordoi Pass.

  • From Canazei drive east on SS641 through the small villages of Alba and Penia and between the Sella and Marmolada mountains to the nice artificial lake of Fadaia.
Stroll around the lake and continue through the Fadaia Pass to the small village of Malga Ciapela.
In the village take the cable car up to the Marmolada Mountain peak, Punta Rocca, and to the Glacier.
Prepare yourself with proper gear for snow hiking. In the cable car’ second station (Serauta) you will find the WW 1 museum (Museo della Grande Guerra).
  • From Malga Ciapela continue to the village of Sottoguda where you would enjoy walking in the Pettorina River’ Serrai di Sottoguda canyon.
This 2 km canyon between the villages of Sottoguda and Malga Ciapela has “dripping” high cliffs, many waterfalls and a small train that runs back and forth in the canyon.
Note that this canyon walk is accessible by families and trolleys.
  • From Sottoguda you can make a small detour to the wonderful Alleghe Lake where you can stroll and admire the scenery or to enjoy the water activities in the lake.
  • Start your way back following SS563 than to SS48 to the small village of Andraz and from there west on SS48 to the Pordoi Pass.
In the pass take the cable car Gondola to the peak of the Sass Sella Mountain. Admire the amazing mountains landscapes that will compensate for the difficult driving in the endless turns going up and down the mountain passes.
  • Return to Canazei.
