• The English Garden (Englischer Garten)

A very large 18th century public park 3 km north of Munich center on the Isar River, considered one of the world’s largest urban public parks. The Park includes more than 70 km of trails for hiking, jogging, and cycling, vast meadows, artificial lake, a small Amphitheatre, and more than 8 km of winding streams. In the park a Chinese Tower, Chinesischen Turm, an impressive 5 stories wooden Pagoda, a Bear Garden, a Japanese teahouse and a Japanese garden on a small island at the south end.
Also in the park the Monopteros, a 16 meters high hilltop Greek temple, meadows where nude sunbathing is permitted, and the Eisbachwelle, a spot on the Eisbach River, where swimming and surfing are popular. Relax in the Kleinhesseloher Lake, sail a Pedal boat, and enjoy the atmosphere. The English Garden is home to the Bavarian National Museum, with its collection of medieval German sculptures and tapestries, and the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection, with its collection of local prehistoric artifacts.
