The Athenian Riviera beaches on the Saronic Gulf, south and southeast of Athens, are the closest to city, and can be reached by public transportation from Syntagma Square, or by car enjoying the great scenery of the coastal road.
The sandy beaches and seaside resorts and accommodation facilities are of all levels, from public to luxuries, including water sports facilities, marinas, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs and large shopping centers. Among the beaches and resorts in the Apollo coast you can select between those in Faliro, Glyfada Beach, Voula Beach, Vouliagmeni bay, Varkiza, and all the way southeast to Lagonissi Beach, Saronida Beach, and Cape Sounio, Attica’s southeastern tip. East of Athens, 50 km on an average, you will find a more open and less organized facilities, sometimes more family oriented beaches, such as Kaki Thalassa Beach in the south east, Marathon Beach or the northeast Nea Makri and Schinias Beach.
