Istanbul is heaven of traditional Bazaar shopping, with its small narrow streets packed with small local products shoppes, antiques, and more. On the other hand enjoy modern malls, and international high fashion brand shops, along the major streets.
The leading Istanbul’s bustling markets (Souks) are in the Sultanahmet district including the magnificent 15th century covered Grand Bazaar, among the world oldest and largest markets, spread over more than 50 streets. Near the Grand Bazaar visit the 17th century Egyptian Bazaar, Istanbul Spice Market, and in between the Mahmutpasha Bazaar open-air market.
Additional worth visiting Bazaars are the Sahaflar Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in Istanbul specializing in antiques and 2nd handbooks, and the Bakircilar Bazaar in Beyazit, specializing in Copper made products.
Visit also Tellalzade Street, known as “’Kadıköy Antique Shops Street”, Besiktas street with its market offering practically everything, and the numerous art galleries scattered throughout the district. For a modern shopping atmosphere visit the Galleria Ataköy, Akmerkez Mall, Istanbul Cevahir Kanyon, İstinye Park in İstinye, and Zorlu Center near Levent.
For windows and street shopping, stroll Istiklal street for its boutiques and international brands shops all the way to the heart of modern Istanbul, Taksim Square. For high end shopping, Shop in Bagdat, Istanbul’s “Champs Elysees”. Explore Abdi İpekçi street in Nişantaşı and Bağdat Avenue on the Anatolian side of the city, both evolved into high-end shopping districts.
