Less known but as beautiful and fascinating as Modica, Ragusa or Noto, this small lively town, which its name is pronounced shi-kli, is located within a gorge 79 km southwest of Syracuse.

The town is located below the Church of San Matteo positioned on the rocky hilltop, and 5-10 km north of the long sandy beaches of Sampieri and Donnalucata.

Scicli which was completely rebuilt following the 1693 earthquake, has few marvelous Baroque buildings and churches including the Sant’Ignazio, San Matteo, and San Bartolomeo churches and Palazzo Beneventano.

Stroll the main baroque street of Via Francesco Mormina Penna, absorb the great atmosphere, and enjoy the small local shops, the cafes, and restaurants.

If you’re a fan of the Inspector Montalbano TV series, you will notice the police station in Palazzo Iacono, and the Scicli town hall used as a locations in the series.
