The Milky Way, an Alpine ski region including two valleys west of Torino offering great skiing facilities.

The northern valley Val di Susa, 46 km west of Torino, is near the old Celtic town of Susa and some charming mountain villages.

The southern valley, Val Chisone, 76 km west of Torino, is a pure and simple ski resort.

Seven resorts share around 400 km ski runs on the ‘Milky Way’. While the Sauze d’Oulx resort is popular by British visitors, the locals and serious skiers favor the resorts of Sestriere and Mota.

Heli skiing can be done in the Upper Susa Valley, snowboarders head to Sestriere and Bardonecchia.
The valley town of Susa is often just a supply stop for skiers, but the once important Roman city is worth a further detour to visit its beautiful 1st century BC gate near the center.

Once in the area you can also use France’s Montgenevre’s family friendly ski runs, 100 km southwest of Torino, which are also covered by the Via Lattea pass.
