Parque Nacional da Peneda-Geres, usually referred to as Geres, is 43 km northeast of Braga, and the most beautiful nature region in Portugal. In the park, mountains and valleys, rapid rivers and streams, numerous waterfalls and lagoons, tranquil and beautiful marked trails, and few viewpoints offering magnificent landscapes. Also in the park region Dolmens sites, Medieval castles and monasteries, the SPA town of Geres, and small, charming villages.
The Park is home to diversified and rich flora and fauna including mixed forests of oak and pine, roe deer, the Iberian wolf, garrano ponies, Barrosa cattle, Castro Laboreiro dogs, and the magnificent golden eagle. When in the park, enjoy the magnificent landscapes, the waterfalls and lagoons, hike the beautiful trails such as the well preserved Roman road, the Geira Romana, and canoe in the rapid rivers and canyons. Visit the Medieval churches and castles, Roman remnants, and charming villages such as the villages of Pitoes das Junias and Tourem in the northeastern corner of the park. Major lakes and waterfalls are scattered around the park, deep in the waterfalls’ pools, and enjoy walking in the surrounding trails.

  • Near Lindoso and Soajo in the center of the park, admire Fechas do Malho, also known as Pocas do Malho, a cluster of 4 impressive waterfalls and lagoons, 6 km north of Lindoso.
  • Visit Poco Negro do Soajo magnificent waterfall and pool near the village of Soajo, and the Poco da Gola waterfall 3 km west of Lindoso.
  • East of Geres, in the southern part of the park, visit to enjoy Cascata do Arado cascading waterfall 5 km west of Geres and the beautiful Cascata de Pincaes waterfall and pool out of Pincaes village, 21 km east of Geres.

Coming from Porto, enter the park region through Geres, 43 km northeast of Braga, or through the park central area while following the road from Braga, 79 km northeast, and Ponte de Barca, entering the park in Lindoso and Soajo.
