• Night life & Bairro Alto District

Mainly a residential area, the district which its origins are in the 16th century, wakes up in the evening to be one of Lisbon’s best lively nightlife centers with its numerous restaurants, cafes, pubs, Fado Clubs, galleries and unique boutiques.
One of Lisbon’s most picturesque streets and one of the nightlife centers in the district is Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo, a steep street home to the vintage Bica Funicular which rides from the waterfront to Bairro Alto. While visiting Bairo Alto visit the churches of Igreja de Sao Roque, and Igreja de Santa Catarina, two of the most beautiful and highly decorated churches in Lisbon. Enjoy the beautiful city views and the sunset from Santa Catarina Viewpoint, Miradouro de Santa Catarina, and from the romantic Sao Pedro de Alcantara Viewpoint, Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara.
To reach Bairo Alto District follow Rua da Misericordia uphill, ride the Santa Justa Elevator or the Gloria Funicular, Elevador da Gloria, from Restauradores Square downtown, take the Bica Funicular from the waterfront, take Tram #28, or have a short walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro station.
Other great neighbourhood for nightlife activities are Alcantara with its numerous nightclubs, the Santos district, and Cais do Sodre in the waterfront which offers late night activities, night clubs, restaurants, and bars.
