The northern of all villages is quite different being a beach-resort, with modern apartment buildings and hotels, but without the special characteristics that define the other four villages. The town of Monterosso is divided into two neighborhoods connected via a tunnel. The old neighborhood shares some of the other village’s vibes, yet bigger and not as steep. The new area is much more modern with a large sandy beach (the only one in the region), restaurants, cafes, and all the regular beach services, including a nearby playground for children.
The mainline trains stops only at Monterosso, which is also the only village to have a proper parking lot available for those visiting with a car.
