A 13th century Medieval walled town built on a hill 20 km north of Siena and considered one of the best preserved Medieval towns in Italy. Walk on the 10 meters high wall with its 14 towers and enjoy the Chianti countryside and Val d’Elsa landscapes. Monteriggioni main square is Piazza Roma home to the small 13th century Romanesque/Gothic Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and the nearby Armory Museum including reproductions of Medieval and Renaissance weapons and armor.
Enjoy strolling in the narrow streets with the small local shops selling local wine and Jewelry.
The Medieval festival held in Monteriggioni in early July is one of the most popular festivals in Tuscany. During the festival days the town people are dressed in Medieval fashion enjoying games, medieval displays, falcon hunt displays, food stalls, and more.
