• Marienberg Fortress

A 12th century fortress with most of the buildings dated to the 16th through to the 18th centuries, located on a hill above the west bank of the Main River overlooking Wurzburg. From the 13th century until the 18th century the Marienberg Fortress served as the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Wurzburg. Visit the fortress and explore the treasury and vestment chamber, the castle keep, the dungeons, the massive Maschikuli, and the four-story Tower. Inside the fortress visit the 11th century Saint Mary’s Church one of the oldest churches in Germany, the Museum of Franconia and the Furstenbaumuseum.
the Museum of Franconia in the fortress Baroque Armory, has 45 rooms displaying regional archaeology items and artifacts from the Paleolithic to the 19th century. Also in the museum magnificent collections of Franconian paintings and sculptures, glassware, silver and gold, and antique clocks exhibition.
