• Lake Achensee

An alpine lake, 9 km by 1.3 km, the largest in the Austrian Tyrol, 13 km north of Jenbach, and 48 km northeast of Innsbruck. With its cold turquoise waters of ~20 degrees c in the summer, and a beautiful location against the Alpine Mountain slopes, it is the most popular lake in the region for swimming and watersports including Sailing, rafting, windsurfing, paragliding, and more.
Hike and cycle the beautiful scenic trail around the lake and take a two hour boat cruise on the lake visiting the villages on its shoreline. Relax or have an active vacation in one of the villages and resorts. In Maurach the village on its southern tip, you will find visitors facilities, and you can consult the local tourist information center as for the area attractions.
Use the Rofanseilbahn cable car from Maurach, or the Karwendel bergbahn from Pertisau, to the nearby mountains for overwhelming scenery of the lake and its surroundings. Using the Rofanseilbahn cable car you will reach the Airrofan Attraction offering an amazing speed gliding experience on a massive cable going down 200 meters.
To reach Achensee and the Maurach village you can use the historic Achenseebahn steam cog railway riding the 7 km distance from Jenbach, in a steep route for 45 minutes. To get to Jenbach drive or take the trains from Innsbruck, Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna.
