• Hiking in Pico Island

The main reason people visit Pico Island is to climb the highest mountain in Portugal,
but in addition to this unique trail there are few beautiful scenic trails in the island which are much easier and shorter.

  • Criacao Velha, PR05 trail, through the “Landscape of the Vineyard Culture”, its natural pools and a windmill on the way.
  • The Calheta de Nesquim, PR11, circular trail including the Poca das Mujas Lagoon.
  • The Misterio da Prainha, PR02 trail, that crosses the island from south to north, and other tails.

Consult the island’s visitor’s centers for the trails available and there detailed routs.
