• Gruta das Torres

Visit the Gruta das Torres, a 5 km long and 1-15 meters high lave cave consisting of interconnected lave tubes
and located near the village of Criacao Velha, 5 km south of Madalena.
A 1-hour tour of 450 meters in the cave with protective gear, flashlights, and a guide is arranged in the site’s visitor’s center.
Admire the geological formations, lava stalactites and stalagmites, benches, lava balls, and more, and learn about the volcanic history of the island.
Note that in summer a reservation is required given the limitation on the number of the cave’s visitors.
