• Grasmere Village

One of the lake district most popular villages, 8 km north of Windermere. The village was the home of William Wordsworth in the early 19th century. The charming village offers small gift shops, places to stay, pubs, cafes, and restaurants. The village sits on the shore of Grasmere Lake with the spectacular hills of Helm Crag to the south and Dunmail Raise to the north surrounding it.

William Wordsworth and his wife lived in Dove Cottage in Allan Bank, and In Rydal Mount, and they are buried in the churchyard of St Oswald’s Church, on the bank of the River Rothay. The land between the church and the river is called the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden. The small building near the churchyard, home now to Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread Shop, was the village school since its opening in 1630 A.D.
