A 19th century Byzantine church, the most important in the island, 5 km north of Skiathos Town, nestled within Pine trees, olive groves and vineyards. Visit the katholicon, the chapels of Agios Ioannis and Agios Demetrios, and admire the beautiful frescoes and the magnificent wall of carved icons and religious paintings. More in the complex, a Folklore Museum with a collection of rare books, manuscripts from the 17th century, gospels from the 18th century, and various religious artifacts.
The monastery is important also for its role in the Greek independence war. A circular half day trail starts and ends in the monastery passing through Agios Haralambos monastery, the chapels of Panagía Kardasi, Agii Apostoli and Agía Irini, offering beautiful landscapes of northern Skiathos.
