• Culloden Battlefield

This is where the final confrontation of the Jacobite rising was held on 16 April 1746, in the Culloden Moor, 10 km east of Inverness. The battle was held between the Jacobite army of Charles Edward Stuart which was decisively defeated by the British government force under William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland.

Near the site there is a visitors’ center which includes an interactive battle experience. Visitors can walk the site trails, exploring the 6 meters high memorial cairn, headstones marking the mass graves of the clans and government, and the old Leanach cottage that probably served as a field hospital for the government troops.
