• Corfu Old Town

Built near the Ancient Palaiopolis of the 5th century BC, today in ground level ruins, the old town represents a mix of 14th-18th century Venetian architecture reminding of Venice, with Neoclassical buildings from the French and British periods. Spend half a day strolling the narrow cobbled streets, explore the 5th century Old Fortress, Palaio Frourio, and visit the 16th century new fortress with its Medieval interior architecture.

When in town, TheTjoy recommends;

  • Enjoy the Liston, a commercial and residential building with an arched colonnade, home to small shops, cafes, and restaurants
  • Explore the Spianada, the impressive town’s square and park, and at night dance in one of the mega night clubs in Ethikis Antistaseos Street.
  • Visit the restored 19th century Palace of Saints Michael and George, its beautiful gardens overlooking the bay, and its Museum of Asian art of Corfu with its more than 10,000 artifacts collections.
  • There are numerous churches in the old town of which we would highlight the town’s 16th century cathedral, Saint Spyridon Church, with its magnificent interior, Venetian Silver and great paintings, home to beautiful ceiling frescoes and the relics of the patron saint of the island.
  • Explore the collection of ancient artifacts excavated in the island of Corfu in the Archaeological Museum of Corfu, and the liturgical and Icons artifacts collection at the Antivouniotissa Museum of post Byzantine religious art in the former 16th century church of the Holy Mother of God Antivouniotissa.
  • There are a few beaches in and around Corfu city including the small Faliraki Beach which is not convenient for swimming, Mon Repos Beach and the rocky Anemomylos beach. Better and highly recommended beaches and resorts are spread all over the island.
