• Saint Roque Church

Igreja de Sao Roque in Bairro Alto district is one of the world’s first Jesuit churches. The church was built in the 16th century with a simple facade but with extravagant interiors and remarkable, highly decorated chapels. The church’s Capela de Sao Joao Baptista was built in the 18th century in Rome, in a Baroque style with gold, marble and Portuguese tiles, and is considered to be one of Europe’s most expensive chapels.
