• Château d’If

A 16th century fortress in the uninhabited island of d’if (Île d’If), the smallest island in the Frioul Archipelago, 3 km off the coast of Marseille. The fortress which was used as a prison is famous for being one of the settings of Alexandre Dumas’s novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Boat tours to the fortress and island are available from the Port of Marseille. Château d’If fortress surrounds the island’s steep cliffs with its high walls and gun platforms, offering wonderful panoramic landscapes of the Marseille Bay from its towers.
