A small 16th century mansion in Amboise, in the Loire Valley, 36 km southwest of Blois, and only 600 meters walk from the Royal Château d’Amboise.
Château de Clos Lucé is known for being Leonardo da Vinci’s last home from 1516 until 1519 when he died and buried in the nearby Château d’Amboise. The mansion is a museum dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, his home and last place of work, his technological achievements, and inventions. In the mansion explore the restored rooms with the period furniture the artworks and da Vinci belonging, and the chapel with its walls covered frescoes painted by his pupils. In the mansion basement admire the 3D animations and models constructed based on da Vinci sketches and drawings, including an airplane, a helicopter, and many more. Stroll the beautiful mansion’s garden and enjoy the open-air museum including numerous full-size models of da Vinci inventions, such as a chariot, a multi-barreled gun, an aerial screw, and a revolving bridge. Leonardo da Vinci was buried in the nearby Royal Château d’Amboise and his tomb can be found in the Chapelle de St.-Hubert in the palace. In the 15th century Chateau d’Amboise, King Francois I favorite, beautifully decorated and impressive rooms with period furniture, tapestries, and a mix of both Gothic and Renaissance artworks. From the palace’s balconies and the terraced gardens enjoy the beautiful panoramic Loire valley landscapes.
