• Castell Coch

The 19th century fairytales like Red castle, near the village of Tongwynlais, 10 km northeast of Cardiff. The castle was reconstructed by the Butt family on the ruins of the medieval 13th century castle. The castle’s picturesque exterior comprises of three circular towers and turrets, a Hall Block, a Gatehouse, and a shell wall, all designed based on 13th century architecture.

The interior on the other hand is designed and elaborately decorated in a high Victorian 19th century Britain Gothic style. The interior includes specially designed furniture and fittings, impressive carvings and walls and ceilings painted panels, including animal paintings, creatures, and religious icons.

The Castle Keep, Well Tower and Kitchen Tower incorporate a series of apartments of which the Castellan’s Rooms within the Keep are the most impressive and interesting.

The tower to the right of the entrance houses exhibits on the castle’s history.

There is a local Bus, traveling between Castell Coch and Caerphilly Castle to enable one day visit to both castles.
