A picturesque fishing village 27 km southeast of Marseille, at the western end of the French Riviera. The village is a popular tourist destination famous for being adjacent to the Calanques National Park with its cliffs, Fjords, and secluded coves. Visit the village port and its fish market and stroll the streets while window shopping the small local shops and the Provencal market in Place de la Republique held every Wednesday and Friday. Admire the 17th century town hall Maison de Cassis, home to the Mediterranean Museum of Art and Popular Traditions.
The Beaches of Cassis are the main attractions of the village. Enjoy swimming and sunbathing in the village and nearby beaches of Grande Mer (for families), Bestouan, l’Arene (wild, no infrastructure), and Corton (Rocky, snorkeling). Take a boat tour or a kayak, to the overwhelming calanques and their impressive limestone cliffs, narrow fjords, and tranquil beaches. Alternatively, hike an amazing Calanques one day trail through the beaches of Port Miou and Port Pin, to Calanque d’En Vau and back to Cassis. Consult the tourist information center for details.
For a magnificent scenic drive take the Corniche des Cretes to Cap Canaille. To further enjoy the local wines, take a vineyard tour in one of 12 vineyards in the area, such as Domaine du Bagnol and Clos Sainte Magdeleine.
Arrive to Cassis from Marseille and spend at least one day in the village and its surroundings.
