• Asbyrgi Canyon

Asbyrgi Canyon in the northern tip of the vast Vatnajokull national park, is a spectacular horseshoe shaped canyon, 3 km long and 1 km wide, with surrounding 100 meters high cliffs.
A 250 meters wide cliff called Eyjan, ‘the island’, divide the canyon in its center. The canyon is rich with vegetation, brush, and birch and willow trees, and many birds nesting in its cliffs, woods and meadows.
Take a short walk of few hundred meters through a charming valley to the small tranquil Botnstjorn Lake, nesting between the brush and the cliffs.
The Asbyrgi nature gem, untypical of Iceland’ landscape, and one of the most beloved, is 62 km east of Husavik along the Diamond Circle route.
