• Area Marina Protetta Parco Sommerso Gaiola

The Marine Protected Area, “Gaiola Underwater Park”, west of Naples, is one of the most picturesque seascapes in the Gulf of Naples.

The area combines vulcanic, historical and archeological coexisting elements.
In the 1st century BC this area was highly popular with the Roman aristocracy who built many magnificent villas in the area including the famous Imperial Villa of Pausilypon.

Remains of the Roman seaside villas, caves and fishponds are still visible above and below the surface of the water which are rich with marine life. Visitors can swim, scuba dive, snorkel, or ride a glass-bottomed boat, exploring the sea life and the remains of the Villa of Pausilypon.
