Schloss Ambras is a 16th century Renaissance castle and palace located 4 km south east of Innsbruck center on a hill above the town and the Inn valley. The castle is a highly popular Tyrol attraction which served as the Archduke Ferdinand II residence, and as a museum for his famous collections. These collections include arts items and artifacts, weapons and armors, books, and furniture, and the Chamber of Art and Wonders collection of exotic items from around the world.
Visit the magnificent Spanish Hall, one of the most beautiful Renaissance halls in Europe decorated with the rulers of Tyrol portraits paintings, and the impressive Habsburg Portrait gallery with more than 300 portraits from the 15th – 19th centuries. Explore the Chambers of Armor, home to 15th century European tournament armor and weaponry.
The wonderful Chamber of Art and Wonders is home to rare and unique natural items, treasure items, scientific instruments, European artifacts, porcelain and silk paintings, and much more. Explore the Strasser collection of Glass and the 15th – 16th centuries collection of Gothic Sculpture.
While visiting the palace enjoy the beautifully decorated Inner Courtyard, the Bathing Chambers of Philippine Welser, and the 14th century St. Nicholas Chapel with the 19th century paintings of August Wörndle.
